That might be a difficult question to answer quickly, but think about it for a second. Is it your family? Money? Adventure?
Or is it something grislier than that – death?
Let’s get morbid for a second as we explore the notion of death’s unpredictability. A lot of the world’s biggest entrepreneurial minds and thought leaders aim to keep a firm grasp on this concept – some even keep track by a “death clock” which displays a live countdown of how much longer you’re expected to live for based on average lifespan data!
If a countdown to your death doesn’t sound appealing, there’s another solution that just debuted (where else?) on the App Store.
It’s called WeCroak, and the entire premise was designed to be very simple. Five times a day, at random and unexpected intervals, you’re going to receive an alert that says the same thing each time, “Don’t forget, you’re going to die.”
You can then swipe to see the correspondingly morbid quote or dismiss the message. Either way, the end result is the same: you’ve been reminded of your mortality all for the incredibly low price of 99 cents.
The app doesn’t aim to be a downer. In fact, it’s purpose is the opposite. According to their website, the developers want you to “find happiness by contemplating your mortality” as it encourages you to “take one moment for contemplation, conscious breathing or meditation.”
So what do you think, does this type of motivation help you on your daily quest to be more productive and fulfilled?
(I downloaded the app just to give it a go and I was pretty impressed with its morbid reminders! #notanadtho)
